The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) — often referred to as the state’s DMV — administers the driver’s license knowledge test (written/permit test covering road rules, signs, etc.) primarily in English.

According to official OMV policy (from their website and procedures):

• The standard test is in English.
• If you do not have a good understanding of written English, you may bring your own translator (interpreter) to assist with Class E (non-commercial) knowledge tests. This does not apply to CDL/commercial tests, which must be in English only.
• Translators are not provided by the OMV for testing purposes (though they offer interpretation services via phone for other customer interactions, not exams).
